Stable Interest Point Detection under Illumination Changes Using Colour Invariants
نویسنده
چکیده
Stable interest point detection is relevant for many computer vision applications. However, most detectors are sensitive to illumination changes, as their response varies with image contrast. In the best case, detection stability is increased using a simple image formation model assuming that illumination effects cause slowly varying changes in the image. This does not accurately model shadows and shading (interaction between illumination and scene geometry). Therefore, a new detection method is presented here, which is based on the very popular Harris detector and on the m space [5]. It yields a detection which is invariant to shadows, shading and illumination colour for matte surfaces. A preprocessing scheme is proposed to reduce the sensitivity to colour artifacts caused by demosaicing. The new detector is evaluated on real images acquired under different illuminations by comparison with other interest point detectors. The detection stability is well enhanced, especially for scenes with complex geometry.

Illumination invariant interest point detection for vision based recognition tasks
Vision based recognition systems learn the appearance of given objects using images. These objects can be recognised and localised in other images after camera motion and illumination changes. The goal of this work is to improve the ability of such systems to recognise objects after illumination changes. Recognition systems usually reduce the amount of image data used for recognition by detecti...
متن کاملFeature points tracking by using photometric model and colori- metric invariants
This article proposes several colour points tracking methods which are robust to illumination changes. Firstly, the illumination correction is achieved by computing simultaneously a local photometric model and a motion model during the image sequence. Secondly, some colour invariants are used to compensate in each point for the illumination changes. Then, since most of these attributes are not ...
متن کاملComparison of Techniques for Mitigating the Effects of Illumination Variations on the Appearance of Human Targets
Several techniques have been proposed to date to build colour invariants between camera views with varying illumination conditions. In this paper, we propose to improve colour invariance by using data-dependent techniques. To this aim, we compare the effectiveness of histogram stretching, illumination filtration, full histogram equalisation and controlled histogram equalisation in a video surve...
متن کاملAdapting Interest Point Detection to Illumination Conditions
The objective of the presented work is to improve the stability of interest point detection under illumination changes. The use of a global threshold is shown to be insufficient and three methods are proposed to enhance a state–of–the–art algorithm: the Harris corner detector. These methods are based on different principles: a local image normalization as preprocessing, a local threshold adapti...
متن کاملDetecting Scene Elements Using Maximally Stable Colour Regions
Image processing for autonomous robots is nowadays very popular. In our paper, we show a method how to extract information from a camera attached on a robot to acquire locations of targets the robot is looking for. We apply maximally stable colour regions (a method originally used for image matching) to obtain an initial set of candidate regions. This set is then filtered using application spec...
